A carer is someone who provides unpaid care to a family member or friend with care needs. They can be parents, children, partners, other relatives, friends or neighbours. Carers can be any age and come from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Caring can take a lot of time, energy and patience and respite allows carers to take some time out for themselves. Respite can be in the home, the community or in a residential facility. Respite can reduce the stress of caring and assist carers to look after their own health and well being as well as giving the person being cared for the opportunity to participate in enjoyable activities.
